Sell in several languages

Choose the languages travelers can use on your booking pages, translate your own content, and see which language pages and emails use.

Samba's traveler pages, widgets and emails are available in English, French, Spanish, German and Portuguese (Brazil). You choose which of them your workspace offers, and you translate your own content, such as trip descriptions, into each one. The operator app itself is in English.

Before you start

You need the Owner, Admin or Manager role to change languages.

Turn on a language

  1. Go to Settings → General and find the Localization section.

  2. Check Default language. This is the language you write your content in. A new workspace starts in English.

  3. Under Enabled languages, tick each language you want to offer. The default language is always on.

  4. Select Save changes.

Samba's own wording, such as buttons, labels and email text, is already translated. With two or more languages enabled, travelers get a language switcher at the top of every public page. With one language, no switcher shows.

Translate your content

Once a second language is enabled, a collapsed Translations section appears on the edit screen of everything you can translate, with one tab per enabled language.

Which language a traveler gets

On your pages, Samba uses the first of these that is one of your enabled languages: the language the traveler picked in the switcher, their earlier choice in the same browser, the language saved on their customer record when they are signed in to the traveler portal, the language your website's widget passes along, their browser language, and finally your default language.

For emails, Samba saves the language of the checkout on the customer record when a traveler books or sends a request, and uses it for every later email to them. You can change it by hand on the customer record. See Manage customers. Emails to you and your team are always in English.

What happens if I turn a language off?

It disappears from the traveler switcher and from your translation tabs. Your translations are kept and come back if you turn the language on again. Customers who had that language saved receive emails in your default language meanwhile.

What happens if I change the default language?

Your content is swapped, not lost. Where a translation exists in the new default language, it becomes the main text and the old main text becomes the translation for the old default. Content without a translation in the new language stays as it is.

If the change would make two answer options of a participant task identical, Samba refuses to save and names the tasks to fix first.

Are past bookings and invoices translated too?

No. Invoices, prices recorded on a booking and answers on booking requests you already decided stay in the language they were recorded in.

Can I add a language that is not in the list?

No. Only the five languages above are available.
